The Hebrew Prophets

The Hebrew Prophets

The Big Picture

Sermon Description

God ordained the Hebrew prophets to provide His children a broad perspective of what it means to be His people. God’s Word is a living thing, and we learn from reading the prophets not only about the character of God, but we gain an understanding of God’s perspective on our lives as well. God listens to His children; we do well to open our hearts to His prophetic Word.

A God Perspective

Sermon Description

Pastor Allen continues with a study of the Hebrew prophets, highlighting the Wisdom Literature (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon). Most of these writings were likely composed during the period when Israel was a united nation, but not compiled into books until the period of exile when it was especially vital for the Israelites to record their history. This beautiful and moving literature engages us in a God-perspective yet today.

Exile and a Future

Sermon Description

Pastor Allen continues with a study of the Hebrew prophets. The Hebrews are in captivity, but this period of exile was as much about God’s involvement with them as was the exodus from Egypt. Discipline in the lives of God’s children brings us back into alignment with His perspectives and is as much an expression of His love as is deliverance.
