Amazon Mission Trip 2008

Dr. Robert Hackman has been faithful for many years to organize and implement medical mission trips to the Amazon River region of Peru.  World Outreach Church has been privileged to participate in many of these special mission trips.  We want to extend many thanks to all those who willingly gave of their time and efforts not only to travel on this latest mission trip but also to send those who went.

The following is a highlight provided by one of the team members:

The Amazon 2008 team will be leave Saturday morning and arrive in Iquitos early Sunday morning the 18th of May.

They plan to take a boat up the river and begin serving the people on Monday morning. The plan for Monday is to begin with breakfast and a devotional time before beginning the day.

There are two nurses who will help the doctor.  There will be a team serving the people. Some will be presenting salvation, some will wash feet and give out new shoes. Someone will give out gifts (t-shirts, ball-caps, toys, school supplies, sewing and fishing kits.) and others will take family photos to give out in the afternoon.

After lunch and a time to rest, the team will move onto serve and minsiter to the children.  They will provide coloring books, crafts,  jump ropes, soccer and Frisbee to the children.   While the children play with the more energetic of the team, the others will do the womens' hair and paint their fingernails. After the last woman has been pampered a bit, and the children are finally tired of running, we will come back to the Chosen Vessel, to take a much needed shower and have supper.

In the evening, we plan to have a church service if the pueblo has a church, or a movie will be shown.  Then as we lie in the hammocks aboard the boat, looking at the million stars, recounting the day, one by one we drift off to our cabins for a good nights' rest.

Only to begin again the next day at another Pueblo.

The Amazon Team returned to the United States having experienced yet another amazing mission opportunity. They were able to minister to scores of precious people who dwell in this area of Peru and were humbled at the reception they received. They were able to offer in return the love and compassion of God even in the most practical ways. Here are a few pictorial highlights from their trip…
