Dr. Robert Hackman has been faithful for many years to organize and implement medical mission trips to the Amazon River region of Peru. World Outreach Church has been privileged to participate in many of these special mission trips. We want to extend many thanks to all those who willingly gave of their time and efforts not only to travel on this latest mission trip but also to send those who went.
.......upon waking in the morning and seeing the mist rising off the Amazon River, the twelve of us knew we had another great day ahead of us. After enjoying a great breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, juice and coffee, we hurried back to our cabins to get ready for the day. Some would help Dr. Ladd in dentistry - like Amanda and Opelia; while others like Beth would help Dr. Hackman. Thanks be to God for all the healings and miracles! One boy, who was blind in one eye, was healed after we prayed on his behalf. Another day, a woman who hadn't been able to walk for more than fifteen years due to a stroke, was able to walk again.
But there are other jobs as well on the medical mission trip to the Amazon, such as giving and distributing gifts, ministering salvation, washing feet and giving them new shoes. Children's ministry was exciting, providing reading glasses, and much more.
The clinic ministry was finished before lunch on most days. Then after a rest in the hammocks aboard the ship, we would go back into the Pueblo for children's and women's ministry. Women’s fingernails were manicured, and hair was combed and braided, while their children colored, blew bubbles and played twister, soccer and Frisbee.
At the end of the day, we held church services, and on some days, a Christian movie was shown in the Pueblo, followed by ministry. After a cool shower and supper, there would be a short devotional time. The next day, after a well-deserved night’s rest, the boat would go on to the next Pueblo to start another awesome day.
The trip was truly amazing. What we received was exceedingly more than we could have ever expected. What a blessing to have been a part of this amazing journey. Many thanks to everyone who went on this trip, made the sacrifice in time, and gave of their talents. God used them in a mighty way. Also, special thanks to Mike and Susie Dempsey, the missionaries who provided wonderful support, food, lodging, and a beautiful river vessel in which to bring the Gospel to the Peruvian people.
