Acts – Believers in Motion

Believers in Motion

Sermon Description

The book of Acts is the story of the impact of the redemptive work of Jesus upon humanity. It tells the story of Jesus from His ascension to our assignment as Christ-followers. We are living the book of Acts— we are assigned the same charge today as those before us. Acts helps us imagine what God might do through our lives.

Fear of the Lord

Sermon Description

As social contexts change and empires rise and fall, the Church of Jesus Christ continues forward in the earth. But every significant move of God has been accompanied by the fear of the Lord—a sense of respect and reverence for God and recognition of His sovereignty. This is shown through the Bible’s accounts of Moses and David and Peter and others. God is actively involved in our lives as well, and Scripture gives us insight into how to honor Him so that we will thrive both in time and eternity.

Significance of Prayer

Sermon Description

We see in the examples of Jesus’ prayers how vital prayer is to faith and ministry, and that same emphasis on prayer is continued throughout the Book of Acts in the work of the early Church. We are the continuing the story of Acts today, and prayer is an important tool as we fulfill our assignments as Christ-followers. When we pray we are asking for the power of the Holy Spirit to be released within us to bring about God’s purposes in our lives.

Sermon Description

The book of Acts helps us understand how to be Christ-followers in our generation. Maturing as a Christ-follower, however, and allowing the character of Christ to be formed in us is a very awkward, less than intuitive process–learning God-responses and the character of Christ and becoming familiar with the Person of the Holy Spirit. The book of Acts helps us with this and gives us the courage we need to be the twenty-first century edition of the book of Acts!
